churches aren’t dark alleys
but i still approach them
with caution
because any good girl knows
that the predators hiding  
in shadows
run at mace and 911
but the predators hiding
in church
only run at truth
which pulpits and pews
find an unnecessary precaution 

the wool suit is
ill-fitting the wolf
but the sheep don’t notice
or care
because it’s better to be led
by the predator
than the woman
or the queer 

and
as long as safety
comes second
to celebrity
as long
as preachers
use churches
as narcissus’s
reflecting pool
the exodus
will be much larger than
a few people in a desert
and the body count
will be much higher than
one man on a cross
