two sides to the story

there are two sides to every story
and only one is written in pen
the other in pencil
designed so the authors of privilege 
and oppression
can erase at whim

and when it comes to injustice
right and wrong
aren’t nuanced things
unless the wrong are White
and the right are out of ink

it goes without saying that
the people who lie
about the narrative
do so to an audience
who never intended
to read the book in the first place

so the storytellers of truth
are burned with their manuscripts
while the posers with pens
hold all the matches
and the rights to the made-for-tv-movie
