mending

sure
i want to mend the world
but its frays are greater
than my skill set 
i would hand it over
but last time i gave it to god
it got lost

someone told me to just
make a new one
but i dropped my needle
and all the thread i have is
tangled in a web of fatigue and grief

why is this my job
i volunteered to bring the cookies made
with levity and privilege
just because people were careless
with its seams
doesn’t mean
it’s my responsibility

and what are we supposed to do
with a world
mended by humanity

alas
people keep running backstage
and our seamstress is missing
and the show must go on

it’s ok
let’s just
find the needle
untangle the thread
we’ll figure this out together
