judas

they told me i was judas
betraying jesus
with all my questions
and doubt
trading Christ in 
for the currency of
popularity
because true women of god
never seek pulpits
over potlucks 

but they didn’t realize
they were the ones
crucifying anything that
threatened their
position
and power
defining righteousness
by the length of each nail
hammered into the hands and feet
of the sinners and rebellious 

they claimed to weep at the
foot of the cross
but we know who really showed up
a mother
a sister
a disciple
all loyal women
to a gentle king

and their taunting
no longer bothers me
because i know
my true name
is not judas
but mary
and i am here
to preach
the resurrection
like it
or not
