I heard we had an emergency
On the border.
They said so
With their profile pictures filled with
Red hats
And crucifixes
And “All Lives Matter”
Propaganda.
They said that brown people
Are good to send shoeboxes to
And paint fences for
In the summer with youth groups
And matching t-shirts from Custom Ink
But must stay in their own
Country
Because we don’t have the money to care
For them or their anchor
Babies.
It’s funny though.
Because the only emergency I see
Is the fact that our domestic violence shelters are shutting down
Because they’d rather
Spend money on a wall
Than a woman being beaten
Or a child being starved.
I guess we don’t have money
For them either.
But at least we have shoeboxes.
